How to become emotionally intelligent and resilient ?

The emotional aspect of my life has been always a little wacky here and there with weird quirks in my character. I am introverted and am really focused more on what my mind speaks then what others trying to communicate to me. So, getting things across when things are emotional is difficult. I too went through some depression and also recovered from it like a bouncing ball. One needs emotional intelligence and resilience to go somewhat peacefully, joyfully, to the place we have to go. It needs to be developed bit by bit over a period of a lifetime. This is not taught in the school or collages and the relationships, friends and family is where we spend most of our life with and care about.

There are something that i searched for developing my emotional hearts capacity. When i was in depression, i was searching anonymous online tools to vent my emotions. Things that is hard to tell can be said to a stranger somewhere in the spinning blob called earth and forget about it for time being or slightly reduce the burden in the mind and heart. It gives such a immediate relief to try this. The platform that made it happen for me is 7cups. It is such a simple and profound way to express your emotions with privacy intact. I found a random listener and blabbered to her about all the difficulty and pain i am going through. And this stranger girl (cheerfulPeach - random names were give to users to preserve anonymity and it was funny what names people get) was patiently listening to my emotional ramblings and being empathetic and supportive of what i am going through. It really helped me to come out of depression and the listener is doing it as volunteered service without any financial benefit. This is really great thing one can do for another soul.

I immediately though of returning the favor and am a listener in 7cups platform which can be used both in PC and phone. It was a major emotional ride for me going through the peoples mind through their words like Charles Xavier in the movie X-men. The colossal suffering all the people are going through majorly relationships issues, health, financial stuffs. Listening to them patiently, i developed some of my empathy for others and caring and acknowledging what they are going through. Its been around 3-4 years i am using it on a regular basis and have given anonymous emotional support to 700 people from around the globe.

The emotional intelligence grows when you face tough situation and overcome and learn from it. The people who share their difficulty, there is a lot to learn and grow and help one another well being and grow. No amount of psychological books out there can teach me the things that i learned from using and talking and giving emotional support to others. It is really most gratifying experience of my life. Nowadays due to travel restrictions due to covid, there are lot of people inside their houses getting emotionally not -well. More volunteers are needed to take up and help others. You don't need to give money to help, you can just share some time and caring words. It makes all the difference.
